Project Description

With funding from the RFU, Cranbrook were looking to replace their muddy Wealden clay based first team pitch with a top flight grass playing surface for their successful first team playing in the Kent 1 League.

PSD Agronomy were appointed by the RFU to manage the tendering process and we won the tender. We started the work in the autumn before one of the wettest winters on record.

The work involved the laser levelling of the former cricket outfield, the repositioning of the cricket square, the installation of an artificial cricket strip, and closely spaced pipe drainage on the new rugby pitch followed by equally close spaced secondary drainage followed by the application of over 600 tonnes of sports sand.

The outcome has been "one of the best playing surfaces in the League" - a product of close cooperation between the Club head of Grounds, John Hacker of PSD Agronomy and Bourne Sport.

Client Feedback

"Our pitch is now the envy of many Kent Clubs. This year we hosted 3 Kent Under 20 County matches. This in itself is a testament to the exceptional quality of the pitch. The Club is so fortunate in being the proud owner of such a great facility. Our thanks to Bournes as ever."

Tim Fagg, Club Chairman
