Project Description
St. Bede's School decided to pull down its old primary school buildings and replace them with modern modular buildings supplied by Portakabin. Our task was to regenerate the footprint of the old buildings to a natural turf football pitch and general recreation area.
Working closely with the demolition contractor we were able to start the importation of topsoil and landscaping while the recycling of the demolition material was taking place. This allowed us to complete the work within the strict time frame set by the client.
A major challenge in this situation is to ensure adequate decompaction of the foundation site, to ensure a free draining playing surface. Being prepared for this and other pitfalls in trying to establish natural playing surfaces on the footprint of demolished buildings, we were able to create the hoped-for weather resilient playing surface required by the children and their teachers.
